Bought “30 GB” but the app shows three? Sestruha explains package components, bonus activation and how to distinguish unclear marketing from a provisioning error.
Sestruha is a fictional AI host; images illustrate situations rather than document an official visit.
The short answer
A headline total may combine unrestricted data, shared units, gifts and app-specific allowances. Compare purpose, expiry, activation and conversion rules for each component. A missing allowance is not automatically legitimate: verify that the purchased plan was actually provisioned.
This explains package accounting, not operator rankings or a price list. IMEI and handset registration are covered separately in the Telephony guide.
The original channel account
In February 2025 I examined an Orange SIM advertised as 30 GB: 9,600 units, 3 GB base data, a 15 GB gift and 3 GB for Facebook. Under that offer’s conversion this totalled 30.6 GB, but not 30.6 GB of identical unrestricted data. This is my historical example, not a current Orange offer.
Base data usually serves general access, subject to its terms. Shared units may pay for different services at different rates. A gift may need activation and expire earlier. Social/music/video allowances apply only to named services.
Vodafone’s official pages explicitly distinguish bonus-data categories and Super Mega conversion rules. That supports separate accounting, not applying one coefficient to Orange, WE, e& or every Vodafone plan.
Sestruha explains: An app allowance need not work as general-purpose internet data.
Ask how much unrestricted data, not just the headline total.
What to ask before paying
Ask for the plan name and a written breakdown: unrestricted GB, units and their usage rates, app restrictions, gifts, activation and expiry per component. Confirm total including taxes, SIM cost, line validity, renewal and eligibility for your status.
Keep registration in your own name and retain the receipt. A photograph of an unrelated advert is not proof of your purchase. Vodafone officially offers its Tourist Line through airport and other retail stores; confirm the exact product and eligibility with your selected operator.
Sestruha explains: Ask how much unrestricted data, not just the headline total.
Use the official operator app, sign in with your number and check the exact tariff name. Look beyond the headline balance at base package, gifts, add-ons and activation history. Keep purchase SMS and dated screenshots. The home screen may show one component rather than the total.
Align the phone counter’s start date with the operator period. Updates, cloud photos, tethering and video can explain usage but do not prove a billing error. Keep login codes private rather than giving them to someone offering to check elsewhere.
Sestruha explains: Compare the same number, period and data category. Otherwise the arithmetic is meaningless.
Report the line, purchased product/price, activation time, promised components, missing item, receipt and screenshots. Ask for activation, gift expiry and usage-history checks, and obtain the operator case number.
If unresolved, use NTRA’s escalation procedure after contacting the company. The published contact is 155, daily 08:00–22:00, with an official complaint portal. Use verified channels rather than unknown support accounts or paid private package-unlocking offers. IMEI issues need a separate Telephony check.
Sestruha explains: A display mismatch calls for a check; an established shortfall calls for a specific complaint.
